Music Ministry 2

At Christ Church Cockfosters we love to use music to glorify God.  We hope that music at Christ Church provides something for everyone, young and old, traditional and contemporary, regular member or guest.  Find out how you could get involved below.  Please get in touch with our Music Director, Michael Andrews, if you have any questions or if you’d like to get involved (music.director@christchurchcockfosters.org.uk).

Sunday Services

We have three Sunday services at Christ Church Cockfosters: 9am, 10:30am, and 6pm.  Across our services, we sing and play a wide variety of church music.  Our 9am service is more traditional with a few hymns on the organ, while our 10:30am and 6pm services have a contemporary band.  We’re always looking for more people to be involved, so if you sing or play an instrument, whether it’s a ‘band’ instrument like drums or bass, or an orchestral instrument such as a flute or a trumpet, we’d love to involve you in our Sunday services.

Community Chorus

Occasionally, our Community Chorus sings at special services such as Remembrance Sunday, Harvest, Easter, Christmas, and our Mission Weekend.  There is no need to be able to read music fluently, or to be able to sight read, although those skills are obviously welcome.  You also do not need to be a regular attendee at our church to be involved in our choir for these services: we would just love to welcome you.  Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more.

Youth Band

At our all-age services (usually the fourth Sunday of the month), we have a Youth Band for teenagers who are currently a part of Pathfinders or Koinonia.  This is a chance for young people to use their gifts in musical worship on a Sunday morning at our 10:30 service.  You need to be roughly grade 3 standard or above to join.  Rehearsals will take place on the Friday evening and Sunday morning before the service, and parts will be distributed in advance so you can practice.  You don’t need to be able to improvise: all music is provided, including transposed parts for trumpet, clarinet, and saxophone!  If you’d like to be involved, please get in touch with our Music Director, Michael Andrews.

Orchestra

For occasional services, we gather together a small orchestra of between 20 and 30 players, often accompanying the Community Chorus.  Rehearsals are usually on the day of the service, so this is ideally suited to those who are around grade six standard and above.  If you’d like to be involved, please email the Music Director.

Acoustic Cafe

Occasionally, we have an Acoustic Cafe event in our very own House Cafe, featuring singer/songwriters and small bands, while you and your friends have a snack or a cup of coffee.  The evening features an interview with our guest singer/songwriter, as we find out about their songwriting skills as well as about their faith.  This is a particularly great event for 18-30s.  Find out more on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/cccacoustic

Music + Brunch = Munch

As a music, PA, and AV team, we’ll be meeting once a term to pray, eat brunch, and chat about musical worship in a relaxed setting with one another.  Please get in touch with our Music Director, Michael, to find out more about being involved in the music ministry, and to receive our termly email updates with more information on all events.

Songwriting and Composers’ Group

This autumn term, we are looking forward to starting a small songwriting and composers’ group for people at church interested in furthering their skills in this area, and simply to share our experiences with one another in a relaxed social atmosphere.  If you’d like to join us, then please get in touch with our Music Director, Michael, by emailing music.director@cockfosters.org.uk.

Musical Support

You don’t have to be musical to help with the music!  We really value those who serve by operating our PA system, our AV projection system, or even filing music away.  We believe that everyone can play a part on a Sunday, so if you’d like to be involved, please get in touch.
